How to Calibrate a Computer Screen

Most of the time when your computer screen is fuzz, out of focus or the color is off, it needs to be calibrated. Calibrating a computer screen is easy. Here's how to do it.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust your contrast and brightness controls for your monitor. They are located either on the front of your monitor or in an on screen menu. Use normal room lighting and make sure there isn't glare from the windows.

    • 2

Verify that your computer monitor is in high color or 24-bit mode. Check this by right clicking on your desktop and choosing "Graphic Properties."

    • 3

Create an ICC profile for your computer screen. Take a course in ICC profiling. See additional Resource section below. This provides a way for you to insure consistent color specifically for your monitor.

Use Adobe Gamma to calibrate your computer screen if you have Adobe Photshop installed. Click on "Start," "Settings" and "Control Panel." to access it. Follow the step by step instructions to perform the calibration.
