The trading of stocks on the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) is constantly covered on the news throughout each day, even when the Exchange is closed. Due to security concerns, there are no longer guided tours of the NYSE.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Take the subway to 11 Wall Street. The 2,3, 4 or 5 train to Wall Street or the N, R or W train to Rector Street will get you there. Visit on a weekend when the building is less crowded.
Step2
Admire the building. This striking building is listed on The National Register of Historic Places.
Step3
Get to know the neighborhood. The streets surrounding the NYSE are teeming with businesspeople, city workers and bankers on weekdays. Visit the site of the former World Trade Center, the Trinity Episcopal Church, the South Street Seaport and other attractions in the heart of Manhattan.
Step4
Watch the news, study film clips and documentaries about the NYSE to get an idea of its history. Check out its website for details before plan a trip to the area.
Step5
Attend a class about the NYSE if you are a teacher. The NYSE offers workshops for teachers who want to learn more about stock trading in general. Tours of the trading floor and curriculum material designed for your students are included.

Tips & Warnings

  • The NYSE opened in 1903, its grand facade at 18 Broad Street consists of six Corinthian capital columns and a marble statue titled "Integrity Protecting the Works of Man."
