Bring back disco music, platform shoes and polyester pantsuits by throwing a "Dy-No-Mite" 1970s party. With the right clothes, attitude and music, your '70s party will be a Saturday Night Fever that people will talk about for years to come.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • '70s music
  • Easy-to-eat foods
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Email and/or home addresses
  1. Step 1

Zero in on a date. Make sure that it is far enough in advance so you can transport your home back in time to the 1970s.

  2. Step 2

Make a guest list. Be sure to get both home addresses in case you send regular invitations and email addresses if you send evites.

  3. Step 3

Pick invitations. Be sure to indicate on the invitations that the appropriate '70s attire is requested, but not required.

  4. Step 4

Send the invitations. Send the invitations at least two to three weeks in advance to give your guests time arrange for the day off work or to find a babysitter and, most importantly, find something to wear.

  5. Step 5

Plan what you will have to eat and drink. For beverages, offer beer and wine as well as a variety of non-alcoholic drinks. For food, make it simple and light because you know everyone is going to be up groovin' to your funky beats.

  6. Step 6

Find music. To avoid spending a fortune on music, visit a website such as Napster or itunes for the most popular songs from the '70s and download the music to your computer.

  7. Step 7

Determine your clothes. Dressing in '70s style clothing is of the utmost importance. Visit your local thrift store or vintage clothing shop for some cool threads.

Tips & Warnings
  • Burn a '70s music disc after downloading the songs to your computer. This saves you the expense of having to buy an entire CD just to hear the one song on it that you like.
  • Pick up a few extra '70s clothing items like a hat or a shirt for partygoers who either forgot to dress up or didn't have the time to seek out the perfect attire.
  • You can throw this party any night of the week, of course, but Saturday night is ideal. Everyone can dress like John Travolta and the other characters from that iconic film. Don't forget to pick up the soundtrack by the Bee Gees.
  • Have the numbers to local cab companies and post so it can easily be found if they are needed for a guest who has had too much to drink.
