Step 1
Buy a premolded shower pan, which is the easiest type to install. Choose the sturdiest shower pan available in your price range to ensure that it won't leak or allow moisture into the drywall.
-
Step 2
Buy some mortar mix and make enough mortar to cover the floor that the shower pan will cover. Read the shower pan's instructions to find out how thick to spread the mortar.
-
Step 3
Spread the mortar evenly on the floor. Remember that with a premolded shower pan, the required slope is usually already built into the pan. Make a gentle slope with the mortar is there is none in the pan.
-
Step 4
Let the mortar fully dry if using a shower pan membrane liner under the shower pan. Lay a membrane liner on top of the mortar if required by the shower pan manufacturer's instructions. Lay another even layer of mortar on top of the liner.
-
Step 5
Lay the pan directly on top of the mortar. Align the pan with the rest of the shower and make sure the fit is secure and that no moisture can leak through.
-
Step 6
Screw the drain cover into the shower pan.
