Silver Christmas trees, also known as aluminum trees, were popular in the late 1950s and have since made reappearances. These trees vary in the number of branches and sizes, and you can decorate them in countless ways. One surefire, attractive way to decorate your silver tree is to keep it simple in design, from color to decor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Silver Christmas tree with stand
  • Solid color string of lights
  • Simple decorations such as ornaments, bows and ribbon
  • Tree topper
  1. Step 1

Select your preferred size of silver tree and place it in a tree stand.

  2. Step 2

Remember to design for simplicity since your tree already has a bit of personality with its silver color. Flashy colors and decorations will detract from the tree and perhaps make it look overdone.

  3. Step 3

Choose one color for your string of lights for simplicity and cohesiveness. For a feminine tree, consider strings of pink or purple lights. To create a more traditional tree, you may want to choose red or green lights. String the lights on the tree starting at the bottom and finishing at the top.

  4. Step 4

Use ornaments that match your color scheme. Choosing a theme for your tree, such as using only ornamental glass balls and baubles, will maintain the simplicity and make your tree an attractive sight. Place the ornaments around the tree, evenly spacing them so the tree is properly balanced.

  5. Step 5

Determine your preference for additional decorations such as bows, garland and the like. For retro Christmas trees, you may choose a bold contrasting color as an accent to your lights. Ribbon, berries or candy canes might be a great added touch to your tree. Place these decorations evenly around the tree.

  6. Step 6

Finish off your masterpiece with a matching tree skirt. Complete the look with a few wrapped gifts.

on 11/25/2008 This is great stuff, but you should NEVER put strings of electric lights on an aluminum tree - HUGE hazard!
