Step 1
Collect sticks to make the frame ,or haul square posts. Find sticks along the banks of a stream or lake.
-
Step 2
Decide where you want to make your ice-fishing hole and lay down planks. Mark the hole on the planks for cutting later.
-
Step 3
Arrange the posts or sticks to make a frame. Secure sticks with a string. Use a drill and screws to assemble the posts. Haul the frame out on the ice.
-
Step 4
Place the frame over the plank floor. Cut a hole in the ice and the plank floor. The hole should be in the forward part of the ice-fishing house to leave room for you to sit down and store an ice-fishing stove.
-
Step 5
Cover the frame using thick blankets or canvas. If the cloth is light, cover it with a dark paint so that no light shines through. Fasten your cover with string or pins over the frame.
-
Step 6
Pack snow around the ice-fishing house so that no light comes in under it. If snow is covering the ice outside, sweep it away so that the light can illuminate the water beneath your ice-fishing house.
