A parade of lights is a parade where all the participants incorporate lights into their floats. It is generally held in the winter in celebration of the holidays. Watching the inventive designs pass by is not only a memorable event, it can also take your mind off the cold weather.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Call your city event's office. Many small towns and cities host a parade of lights at a specific time each year. You can contact the department of events and ask them if there is a parade of lights scheduled.
Step2
Contact the chamber of commerce, a source of information for local events, businesses and attractions. Some chambers have websites, while others have their contact information listed on websites pertaining to their specific location.
Step3
Watch your local news. Most community events are covered by the media. The more popular an event, the more coverage it will have. Depending on the cause for the parade, your local news station may begin advertising their coverage before the event.
Step4
Get involved in your community. Community volunteers are generally the first to know when an event will happen. You need to be active in your community to find out what opportunities are available. Not only are you among the first to know of an event, you may even be asked to plan a parade of lights for your community.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you live near a river, lake or bay, your local boating community may host a floating parade of lights.
