Choosing automotive trade school is an important step in furthering your career. Choosing a school that fits your life, schedule and career ideas can also save time and money. Learn how to pick an automotive trade school with the following steps.

From Quick Guide: Explore Career Paths
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a school that offers classes in the automotive field that interests you. There are many schools with automotive classes, but ask about specific degrees offered.

  2. Step 2

Determine the financial cost of taking the classes you want. Get a list of costs per class for books, fees and any other charges for which you are responsible. The financial aid department can let you know these things, along with how to apply for financial aid.

  3. Step 3

Learn what happens when you graduate from the school and need a job. Trade schools often help you find a great job in your field and offer support throughout your career.

  4. Step 4

Know if the school uses the latest technology for your training and education. Using the latest technology better qualifies you for higher paying jobs.

  5. Step 5

Find out when classes are offered. If you are working full- or part-time, you may need to take night or weekend courses. Make sure the school offers the classes you need at these times.

  6. Step 6

Talk to instructors about their qualifications. Find out if they became instructors right out of school or if they professionals in the field that they are teaching. An instructor with on-the-job experience can teach you more than someone learning out of a book.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't enroll in the cheapest school just because it is cheap. Going to a school that offers support to students before, during and after graduation will benefit you more in the long run.

on 1/5/2009 Great tips. Also keep in mind that if you're considering going to a mechanic school, most (if not all) of them require you are a high school graduate (or have your GED). Make sure to check with your school adviser before getting too far into the process to make sure.

You can also get more information on top mechanic schools at the Loud Market mechanic schools directory www.loudmarket.com

Best,
