There is nothing more perfect to put in a winter cabin or a den then a bearskin rug. They are soft, beautiful and can do a lot for a room. Some people even find them sexy and exotic. They can also be costly and difficult to buy. Follow these guidelines and enjoy a bearskin rug this winter.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Verify the license of the vendor before buying the bearskin rug. It is illegal to buy or sell a bearskin rug without the proper permit.

  2. Step 2

Confirm that the rug was professionally skinned and tanned. A quality bearskin rug has the original bear claw on the hands. The bearskin rug needs to be padded properly in order to use it.

  3. Step 3

Inspect the rug to ensure it is free of blemishes or scars. This will greatly decrease the value of the rug

  4. Step 4

Choose the appropriate length for the room. Bearskin rugs can be more than 6 feet long. Measure the space where you are going to put the rug before buying it.

  5. Step 5

Select a color that compliments the room. Depending on the color phase that the bear is in, they can range from dark brown to blond. Blond bear skins are the most expensive.

  6. Step 6

Do a price check. A vendor may try to sell the rug for more than it is worth. Check around with different sellers to see what is the appropriate asking price.

  7. Step 7

Consider buying a fake bearskin rug. They are a lot less expensive and easier to acquire. They are just as beautiful as a real bearskin rug.
