Things You'll Need:
- Shotgun
- Hunting license
- Waders
- Duck call
- Steel shot shells
- Duck decoys
-
Step 1
Take an inventory of hunting gear. Any good shotgun will do and a No.3 steel shot shell works well.
-
Step 2
Ensure that a good set of waders is ready to trek through wet and muddy conditions. These should allow the hunter to move easily and have enough waterproof pockets for shot shells and other gear.
-
Step 3
Pack at least four dozen duck decoys to disperse in the water and on land to attract any passing ducks to the area.
-
Step 4
Bring a good duck call that is easy to use and carries a good distance.
-
Step 5
Find an area to hunt ducks that is either a state regulated wetland hunting preserve or in an area where permission to hunt has been granted by the landowner. Obtain a duck hunting license from the state before hunting.
-
Step 6
Shoot at ducks when they are either preparing to land or taking off. Try to keep the gun level, the barrel just in front of the bird and let the shotgun "lead" the duck for a short time before firing.
