Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Steamer rack
  • Skewers

    Prepare the Squash

  1. Step 1

Wash the squash thoroughly under running water. Remove all dirt from the skin.

  2. Step 2

    Cut the squash in half.

  3. Step 3

Quarter, slice or cube the squash depending on the cooking method you'll be using.

  4. Cook the Squash

  5. Step 1

Fry the squash. After slicing it into ¼-inch thick pieces, make a batter out of milk, eggs, flour and salt. Dip the squash into the batter. Heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat in a skillet or deep fryer. Drop the squash into the oil. Fry each piece until golden brown.

  6. Step 2

Boil the squash. First, bring water to boil in a large pot. Cut the squash into quarters and place it into the boiling water. Cover with a lid, turn the heat to medium and let it cool for one hour. Poke the squash with a fork. If the squash is soft, it is ready to eat.

  7. Step 3

Bake the squash. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Remove the seeds from the halved squash and place the pieces on an oven pan. Bake in the oven for 11/2 to 2 hours. Poke the thickest part of the squash to tell if it is done. If the squash is soft, it is ready. Remove the meat of the squash from the skin using a spoon or fork. Add butter to taste.

  8. Step 4

Steam the squash. Place a steamer rack in a pan ¼ full of water. Bring the water to a boil. Place the squash on the rack. Steam the veggies between 15 minutes and one hour. The cooking time varies depending on the size and type of squash.

  9. Step 5

Grill the squash. Peel and cut the squash into 2-inch pieces. Spear the squash onto the skewers. Brush the squash with butter. Lay the skewers on the grill and close the lid. Let the squash cook for 10 minutes. Turn the skewers and continue to cook for 10 more minutes. Remove the skewers from the grill. Brush butter and honey onto the veggies.
