How to Make Tahitian Rice

Tahitian Rice is a rice casserole with an island flare. This recipe is one way to add a Tahitian taste to any special occasion or evening meal. It takes about 3 hours to prepare and cook this recipe for Tahitian Rice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 lbs. sausage
  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 large can pineapple
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 small stalk celery
  • 3 boxes chicken noodle soup mix
  • 2 cups regular uncooked rice
  • 9 cups water
  • 1 can chopped water chestnuts
  • Sauce pan
  • Skillet
  • 9-by-13 casserole dish
  • Aluminum foil
Step1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Step2
Boil water in a sauce pan over high heat.
Step3
Chop the green pepper, celery and onions.
Step4
Brown the sausage and onions in a skillet until well done.
Step5
Add the green pepper and celery to the skillet.
Step6
Cook slowly for 1 hour while continuously stirring the mixture.
Step7
Drain the pineapple.
Step8
Add the rice and the soup mix to the boiling water. Stir the pineapple into the mixture.
Step9
Put the mixture into a large casserole dish and cover with aluminum foil.
Step10
Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Step11
Uncover and add the water chestnuts. Continue cooking for 30 minutes uncovered or until rice is done. Let the dish cool at least 5 minutes before serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add pineapple slices to the top of the Tahitian Rice for decoration after cooking.
  • This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.
