Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Know that during pregnancy, your body is growing and adjusting to support the growth of another human being. No small task, the experience can be wearing on your physical and emotional states.
Step2
Realize that every women's experience--even among her own pregnancies--are different from each other. Though the experiences of your mother and sisters can sometimes shed some light into what you can expect during your own pregnancy, you're still a unique woman who may have a completely different experience compared to those of women you know.
Step3
Prepare your partner as you learn about the emotional changes that are likely to affect you during your pregnancy.
Step4
Know that feeling tired is extremely likely in the beginning--often through the first trimester. Go easy on your body getting adequate rest and limiting heavy exercise or physical work when it feels like to much. Taking it easy will benefit both mind and body.
Step5
Accept that you will gain weight. This is difficult for many women, so keep in mind that your body is reasonably growing for a reason--to nurture a life. Maintain a healthy growth pattern by eating regularly and healthfully, and getting your physician's opinion on your weight at checkups.
Step6
Focus on a sense of wellness; when you experience physical symptoms such as acne, constipation or other aches and pains, you'll see purpose for these seemingly inconveniences.
Step7
Talk to female friends and family members both about your pregnancy fears and experiences and what they themselves experienced while pregnant.
Step8
Read up on the physical changes you can normally experience during pregnancy. Knowing the types of unexpected changes that may occur will make you more comfortable should they happen, easing worry and concern.
Step9
Know that you'll have sad days, happy days, exciting days and draining days. It's all part of the experience at a time when hormones are constantly in flux.
