Tortilla dumplings are a twist on a traditional chicken and dumpling recipe. This tortilla dumpling recipe is easy to make and takes less than 1 hour to prepare and cook. Enjoy this nutritional recipe fit for the whole family.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 1 onion
  • Water
  • 1 can chicken broth
  • 2 lbs. chicken
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 15-ounce package flour tortillas
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sauce pan

Step1
Dice the onion and celery into small pieces.
Step2
Add chicken, celery, onion and broth to a sauce pan and cook until tender.
Step3
Remove the chicken from the broth.
Step4
Pull the chicken meat off the bone. The chicken does not have to be in neat pieces. If the chicken is in chucks or strips it is fine.
Step5
Add the butter to the broth and stir until the butter melts.
Step6
Cut or tear the tortillas into narrow strips. The strips can be in squares or fun shapes for smaller children.
Step7
Place the tortilla strips in the chicken broth.
Step8
Cook over low heat for 5 to 10 minutes.
Step9
Add the half-and-half while the tortillas are cooking.
Step10
Mix in the milk and stir continuously.
Step11
Add chicken to the mixture or serve separately.
Step12
Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.

Tips & Warnings

  • Serve the tortilla dumplings on a bed of rice or served with crescent rolls.
  • Tortilla dumplings keep in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
  • Use evaporated milk instead of regular milk for a more creamy taste.
  • This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.
