    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Net with long handle
    • String
    • Piece of meat bait
    • Bucket
      • 1

Find a creek or pond where the water isn't too cold or deep and you can see the bottom.

      • 2

Look along the water's edge, under the weeds in the water, under rocks, logs, or any place you think would make a nice hiding place for a crawdad.

      • 3

Tie a sting around any kind of meat bait such as lunchmeat, chicken or a piece of a hotdog if you can't find a crawdad. Try to lure any crawdads out of their hiding places by placing the bait very close to holes in the edge of the creek where they might be.

      • 4

Pull the meat bait slowly away from the crawdad's hiding spot to get him out in the open once you have a crawdad hooked. Catch them, from behind if possible, with your net.

      • 5

Put the crawdad in a bucket of water out of direct sunlight.

      • 6

Let it go back in the water before you go home. Then you can catch it again another time.

    Tips & Warnings

    • You can also catch a crawdad directly in the net by placing the meat bait in the net and then pulling it up once they've climbed onto it to eat the food.

    • If you can't see the bottom of the water, throw the meat bait attached to the string in the water, let it touch the bottom, then slowly pull it up. Do this a few times until you come up with a crawdad attached to the string.

    • You can also purchase crawdad traps if you wish to catch bigger and more crawdads.

    • When holding a crawdad, pinch it lightly on the back of its body so it can't pinch you with its claws, which hurts like heck.
