Things You'll Need:
- Wrapping paper
- Tape
- Scissors
- Pen or Pencil
- Patience
- Bow
- Ribbon
-
Step 1
Give the child a notepad and pen. Ask the child to write down all the items you need to wrap a present. Gather the items with the child. You will need wrapping paper, tape and child safety scissors.
-
Step 2
Have the child unroll or unfold the wrapping paper. Start with the largest present first if you have several presents. Place the gift onto the paper.
-
Step 3
Show the child how to fold the paper over the gift to measure it. Make sure you leave enough room around the gift for folding and taping.
-
Step 4
Mark the wrapping paper with a pen or pencil on the inside of the paper. These will be the child's cutting lines.
-
Step 5
Give the child safety scissors and ask the child to cut along the drawn lines. Put aside the extra paper.
-
Step 6
Show the child how to put the gift in the middle of the cut paper. Help the child fold the paper around the gift.
-
Step 7
Hold the sides closed while the child tapes the wrapping paper to the gift. Add a bow to the gift or help the child tie ribbon around the present.

on 2/9/2009 I discovered fabric giftwrap for myself, so called furoshikis. Although oroginal designs are tied, last Christmas when I gave gifts to kids, I just folded the fabric around the gifts. No tying, no tape, and even the smallest kid yould open it herself! I thought it was great that the giving didn't had to be interrupted by the usual "give me the gift, let me open it for you". And the kids enjoyed it very much, I have to say, more than the present! :-D The furoshiki was than the blanket of the dolls. What an afterlife for a giftwrap! :-D I also find that kids find it easy to wrap gifts in them because they don't rip and crinkle as easily as paper. And they don't need scissors for them!
