How to Make Cinnamon Apples

Most cinnamon apple recipes involve coring the apples. This isn't easy for a lot of people to do, and if done incorrectly, leaves the seeds and part of the core behind. Try this recipe instead for an easy alternative that tastes and smells just as wonderful. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Apples
  • Paring knife
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oven
  • Timer

Instructions

      Peel the skin off the apples. Cut them into quarters from the stem to the flowered part at the bottom.

      Cut each quarter in half. You will be left with eight apple pieces. Remove the core parts and any stem or flowered part. Keep the pieces in order so you can reassemble them. Spray the aluminum foil lightly with the cooking spray on one side.

      Reassemble three quarters of your apple. Wrap it in aluminum foil, with the sprayed side facing the apple. Leave it open above the missing quarter section.

      Mix 1 tbsp. of brown sugar with 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon for each apple. Stuff the apple with the mixture.

      Replace the two remaining pieces on top of the sugar mixture. Wrap the apple completely in foil.

      Bake the foil wrapped apple for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees F or on a hot grill for 10 minutes.

  • Tart apple lovers should use a Granny Smith, while sweeter apple fans should try a Golden Delicious or a Rome Beauty for this recipe. Whatever variety you choose, make sure it is a good baking variety so it does not fall apart.

  • Turn the cinnamon apples into spiced apples with the addition of a 1/8 tsp. of nutmeg or ginger.

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a delicious treat!

  • If you will be grilling the apple over charcoal, be sure to wrap it tightly. Some people may not appreciate a smoky cinnamon apple!
