The beauty industry is big business. If you live in the state of Washington and are interested in starting a career as a cosmetologist, read the following information to get your piece of the pie.

      Visit the Beauty Schools Directory website. Select the ¨Common Q & A¨ link at the bottom of the page. Go down the links on the right-hand side of the page and choose the ¨State-by-State License Requirements¨ link. Finally, scroll down to and click on the ¨Washington State Board of Cosmetology License Information¨ link.

      Read over the licensing requirements. Scan the right side of the page to find any important informational links that interest you.

      Search for an accredited cosmetology school near you by clicking on the ¨Find Schools¨ link. Visit each school's website by clicking on the school's name. Review enrollment and tuition information.

      Visit the campus once you decide on a school. Enroll in the cosmetology course and complete 1600 hours of cosmetology education--as required by the state of Washington.

      Apply to take the state-approved National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) written examination on the Lasergrade website. Verify you pass the written exam before taking the practical exam.

      Take the practical portion of the cosmetology test by following directions on the Dlroope website.

      Download and print the license application from the Washington State Department of Licensing website once you have passed both exams.

      Mail your completed application along with proof of passing the state-approved NIC national written and practical examinations to: Cosmetology Program Department of Licensing, PO Box 9048, Olympia, Washington 98507. There is no fee involved in the initial application process.

      Wait to receive your license by mail. Once you have it, post the license at your work station, and start making money as a licensed cosmetologist.
