Book swapping online has become a popular way to rid your house of books that have become clutter and an affordable way to acquire the titles you want to read. This is a great way to recycle books and connect with readers all across the country. It's easy to get started, and in no time you'll be reading your pre-appreciated books.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Email address
  • US postal address
  • Books to trade
  1. Step 1

Log on to the book swap website such as PaperBackSwap.com or FrugalReader.com. PaperBackSwap (PBS) offers a tutorial guide and a downloadable video about how to use its site.

  2. Step 2

Have a valid email address and a valid US mailing address when you're filling out your membership form. For many swaps, there is no fee to participate.

  3. Step 3

Post the books you can live without and want to swap. For PBS, you must post 9 titles your first time, which will earn you 3 credits to receive books. For FR, posting 9 titles gives you 2 credits, so you can start searching for the titles you want to read the first day.

  4. Step 4

Search for titles in the PBS library by title, author or genre. When you find one you want, click on "Order this book."

  5. Step 5

Check your email. When another swap member requests a book from your list, you will receive an email. Accept the request and mail the book. PBS provides a printable wrapper for each book. You will need to cover the cost of postage which can run you from $1.30 - $2.50 depending on the size of the book.

  6. Step 6

Mail your book and wait. When your book is received, you'll earn more credits (or in the case of FR, a premium membership upgrade), which means more book ordering for you and the cycle begins again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not every book is in pristine condition. Some books are worse for wear than the owner suggested. Understand that you are getting books for free and you get what you pay for.
