2. Complete an accredited cosmetology program. Oklahoma requires students to complete at least 1,500 hours of curriculum in order to qualify for the official licensing exam. A list of accredited private programs and public school programs are listed on Oklahoma's Board of Cosmetology website.

3. Consider an apprentice program. If the fees of beauty school are too much of a burden, try a different route. Complete a 3,000 hour apprentice program under the guidance of a licensed instructor in a salon.
