The Internet has made pornography easily accessible anytime in the privacy of your own home. This has led many people to become addicted to Internet porn. If you wish to avoid Internet pornography a few simple steps will aid you greatly in your quest.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Move your computer to a more public area of your home. Choosing a place where others who live with you frequent or near a window where passersby could see what you are looking at is a great way to keep the sites you view clean.

  2. Step 2

Keep track of your reason for visiting a website. If you find you're on a site with sexually tempting content, verify that you have a necessity to be there or navigate away from it.

  3. Step 3

Limit your usage of the Internet to times when others will be around. Spending hours along surfing the Internet is a recipe for disaster.

  4. Step 4

Speak with friends to find a partner who is like minded in avoiding Internet pornography. Check up on and encourage one another to stay away from porn.

  5. Step 5

Get up from your computer and do something else for a while if you find yourself slowly viewing progressively less appropriate web pages. If not you will likely spiral out of control and end up looking at pornography.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not give up. If you find yourself on a pornographic page and realize what you are doing is wrong, it is not too late to close the page, get up and let yourself cool down before using the internet again.
  • Be cautious who you seek advice from. Many people find Internet pornography perfectly okay and may go so far as to ridicule you for not looking. This will be a serious blow to your motivation.
  • Avoid laptops if at all possible. They make it very easy to bypass the location of your desktop computer and allow you to hide somewhere and still view the pornography.

on 8/18/2009 Great article. We have recently formed a not for profit called SA Lifeline that focuses on Sexual / Pornography addiction education and instruction. As part of our launch we have teamed up with a leading Neurologist that has done extensive research on this topic. He also completed a book about pornography addiction that dives into its impact on the brain. Please take a look at the write up on the book and let us know you think. If you do decide to order a book, 100% of the proceeds from the book are going to spread this message. To date we have given away over 500 books to local religious, civic, and business leaders in our immediate community.
