Date rape drugs or "predatory drugs" such as Gamma hydroxy butrate, Rohypnol and Ketamine can be deadly. They are the primary drugs used when someone tries to incapacitate someone with the intent of committing sexual assault. These drugs are particularly dangerous when combined with alcohol.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your drink with you at all times. If your drink is out of sight, even for a few minutes, don't finish it. Get yourself a new one.

  2. Step 2

Refuse any drink that is already open, including soft drinks. If you order a drink in a bar, watch the bartender open the bottle or mix your drink.

  3. Step 3

Stay away from drinks poured from punch bowls. Unless you watched the punch bowl for the entire event, you don't know if someone added anything dangerous to it.

  4. Step 4

Understand the effects of alcohol on your body. Limit your alcohol consumption and avoid drinking games. Keeping your wits about you decreases the risk of being sexually assaulted.

  5. Step 5

Get help if you feel the symptoms of a date rape drug. Call 911. Ask for a urine-screening test. Though traces of the drug still appear in tests after 72 hours, the chances of getting proof are best when the sample is obtained quickly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Take a same-sex friend with you when you go out to a new place or out to meet someone new at a bar.
  • Rohypnol is now made so that it turns light-colored beverages bright blue. Consumers of dark-colored beverages should notice a cloudy appearance. The drug dissolves slowly and forms chunky pieces in your drink.
  • GHB is in a liquid, colorless, odorless and tasteless form. Sometimes there is a salty aftertaste, depending on how it was produced.
  • In its undiluted form, Ketamine looks like an off-white powder. When diluted, it looks like cloudy water.
  • Never underestimate the tranquilizing power of alcohol. Drink responsibly.
