1
Answer an ad. Automobile showrooms always run ads for salespeople and they are usually willing to train. It is a high-pressure job and there is high turnover in the industry.
-
2
Bring your own set of questions to the interview. Write out what is important to you in a career, such as being completely honest with customers or the quality of the product and the service you will be asked to sell.
-
-
3
Expect the best and prepare for the worst. Both customers and managers will not always be upfront and honest with you. Get promises in writing and make sure that you are working more than one deal at a time if some end up dead-ends.
-
4
Build relationships. As in many sales jobs, referrals will eventually account for a large percentage of your sales. Car sales are no different. Follow up with current customers. Ask for referrals and let them know that you are available to help them.
-
5
Pump yourself up each day before work. Enthusiasm is contagious. People like being around others who are positive and outgoing and really like the product they are selling.
-
6
Talk to your potential clients in a friendly manner, learning all you can about them before even talking about cars. Soon, they will feel a kinship and begin to trust you because of your serious interest in them and their needs.
-
7
Listen closely. Let your customers talk more than you do. They will tell you what they like, how much they are willing to pay, and when they are ready to buy. Only careful listening will produce the results you want in a career selling cars.
