How to Get a Cosmetology License in Florida

A career in cosmetology can be very rewarding. Florida requires individuals to complete a minimum of 1200 hours of cosmetology education before applying for a cosmetologist license. Read more to find out how to get started in this exciting career.

  1. Step 1

    Get information on Florida Cosmetology License requirements and search for a school of cosmetology by visiting Beautyschooldirectory.com.

  2. Step 2

    Go to the bottom of the page and select the ¨Common Q & A¨ link. Scroll down the links on the right-hand side of the page and choose the ¨State-by-State License Requirements¨ link. Now scroll down the links and choose the ¨Florida State board of Cosmetology Requirement¨ link.

  3. Step 3

    Read licensing requirement information. Scroll down to the ¨Find Schools¨ link. Review both options and choose the appropriate link by clicking on it.

  4. Step 4

    Decide which school is closest and best serves your needs. Click on the school name and visit their website for more information on enrollment and tuition requirements.

  5. Step 5

    Visit the school campus. Enroll in an accredited cosmetology course and complete 1200 hours of cosmetology training.

  6. Step 6

    Submit an application and fee for the Florida Cosmetology Examination to the school department.

  7. Step 7

    Receive notification of examination approval from Promissor and schedule a written exam date through the Promissor website.

  8. Step 8

    Take and successfully pass both parts of the written examination and receive your cosmetology license. Start your career as a licensed cosmetologist.
