How to Walk the Dog With a Yo-Yo

Probably the single most popular yo-yo trick is to "walk the dog." Anyone who sees you throwing a gravity pull or doing any other yo-yo tricks will inevitably ask you to perform this one. Be ready and start practicing.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A hard, smooth floor
  • A yo-yo
  1. Step 1

Find an area with a hardwood floor or other hard surface. You cannot walk the dog on carpet.

  2. Step 2

Wind the yo-yo string all the way around its axis and put the string loop around the middle finger of your dominant hand.

  3. Step 3

Grip the yo-yo in the open palm of this hand with your palm facing upward and bend your arm at the elbow, bringing the yo-yo towards you as if you are trying to make a muscle.

  4. Step 4

Bring the arm back down with a snap and let the yo-yo roll off your fingers. Turn your hand so the palm faces downward when the yo-yo is completely off your hand.

  5. Step 5

Lower the yo-yo gently until it is barely touching the hard floor. As the yo-yo continues to spin, let it roll forward along the floor as if you are walking a dog.

  6. Step 6

Pull the yo-yo right back into your hand before it stops rolling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't let the dog walk too long before yanking the yo-yo back up or the yo-yo won't return to you.
  • Don't attempt this trick on bumpy surfaces such as driveways. The trick won't look right if you do, and you could scratch up your yo-yo.
