There's a well-known rule in the kingdom of party preparation: The simple addition of a mirror ball (commonly known as a disco ball) can transform the average basement into an instant dance floor. If you want to add a little retro flare to your next gathering, consider installing a disco ball in your party space (this is a must if throwing a 70s themed shindig!). There's nothing to it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Disco ball (decide on a size before picking the motor)
  • Disco ball motor (make sure it can support the weight of the ball chosen)
  • Heavy duty screws
  • Electric screwdriver
  • Stepladder
  • A partner (to steady the ladder and hand up supplies)

Step1
Pick the ideal location for the disco ball. This should be a place on the ceiling, that will be the center of the dance space or party area. Steer clear of ceiling fans and light fixtures.
Step2
Set up the stepladder. Make sure legs are locked and secure. The last thing needed is a broken limb in the name of disco. Have your partner hold fast to both sides of the ladder at all times.
Step3
Hold the base of the disco ball motor up to the ceiling, making sure everything stays flat and even.
Step4
Using the electric screwdriver and keeping the motor in place with one hand, secure the device with the heavy duty screws. It is important to utilize every available screw hole on the motor to prevent falling or malfunction.
Step5
Attach the disco ball to the motor using the chain or s-hook provided. Again, it is important to check the weight allowance of the motor to make sure the disco ball will not be too heavy. A disco ball to the head is not only a mood-killer, but also a potential lawsuit.
Step6
If the disco ball motor is a plug-in device, plug the power cord into a wall outlet at this time. Your party space is now disco fabulous.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the lighting source you choose to use with the disco ball is strategically placed near the device, but not so close as to create a fire hazard.
