How to Fundraise for an Adoption
Most adoptions are expensive, ranging from $10,000 on the low end to upwards of $35,000 or more. Some people are able to pay for their adoptions through savings or a home equity loan. However, many people need to raise some or all of their adoption fees. There are many different options available to you if you plan to fundraise for an adoption.

1
Realize that fundraising for an adoption is not a quick or easy thing. Your entire goal will likely not be accomplished in one fundraiser. Instead, it will take many different types of fundraisers over a period of several months or more.

2
Begin by sending out letters to friends, family and any church or civic groups you're involved in. Tell them about your impending adoption and ask that they consider being involved in bringing your child home. Many individuals or groups are excited to be involved in an adoption.

3
Look into different fundraisers and choose those that make sense to you. Search online for items you can use to raise money. Popular items include chocolate bars, candles, cookie dough and catalog items.
-
4
Find other donation products, such as scratch cards, that people can purchase to help with donations. Another idea is a "Dollar Project" in which you ask individuals to give just a dollar toward the cost of your adoption.
-
5
Work on collaborative efforts that you can do as a family or with the help of friends or a community group. Popular choices include car washes, garage sales and fundraising meals such as a pancake supper.
-
6
Consider raising money by buying items and selling them at a profit in online auctions or in the newspaper. This can be a very effective way to raise funds.
