On May 30, 2007, the Apple Computer corporation launched iTunes Plus. When you purchase a song from the iTunes webpage, it asks you if you would like to use iTunes Plus. Once you click yes, it changes the default and all songs that are available in iTunes Plus suddenly go from $0.99 a song to $1.29. With a few simple steps you can disable this feature and go back to the $.99 songs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An iTunes account
  1. Step 1

Open up iTunes by clicking on the iTunes icon on your computer.

  2. Step 2

Click on "iTunes Store" on the right column of the iTunes page.

  3. Step 3

Click on the third link from the top in the section on the far right of the page called "Quick Links." This link is called "Account."

  4. Step 4

Type in your password to get into your account when prompted.

  5. Step 5

Click on "Manage iTunes Plus" which is the first link at the far right of the "Apple Account Information" page.

  6. Step 6

Make sure the box is unchecked where it states "Always show me iTunes Plus music and music videos when available." If it is checked, click the box to uncheck it.

  7. Step 7

Click "Save Changes." Now your music will go back to $0.99 a song versus the iTunes Plus price of $1.29.

Tips & Warnings
  • The songs available on iTunes Plus are DRM-free songs and right now are available for a select number of artists. There is no difference in the sound quality of the iTunes Plus and regular iTunes songs.
  • DRM (Digital Rights Management) restricts the use and transfer of music purchased. DRM-free means that you are no longer as restricted on where you privately use the music you purchase. However, the DRM-free songs are encrypted with all your personal information so if you try pirating it or if you post the music on websites where you don't have permission, it will be easy to see who did it and you will be caught and fined.
