How to Guess a Baby's Gender

There is no exact way to find out a baby's gender without the use of an ultrasound or DNA testing. However, many expectant women look to old wives' tales in order to guess their baby's gender. These are some fun ways you can guess a baby's sex without the use of medical equipment.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Consider the frequency of morning sickness. If you avoided early morning sickness, it is said that you are carrying a boy. Morning sickness throughout the pregnancy indicates a girl.
Step2
Keep track of the baby's heartbeat. A slower heart rate measured in utero is said to belong to a boy. A heart rate that is faster than 140 beats per minute means a girl.
Step3
Look at the way that you are carrying. This is a common way that women guess a baby's gender. A woman that is carrying high is having a girl while low represents a boy.
Step4
Pay close attention to your cravings. If you are eating sweets, then a girl is on the way. Women carrying boys want foods that are sour or salty.
Step5
Judge your appearance. One tale states that if you are carrying a girl, she will steal some of your beauty away. Women that are pregnant with boys look radiant and healthier than they have ever been.
Step6
Perform the wedding ring trick. Some women will tie a string to their wedding ring and hang it over their belly. If it moves in a circle, you are having a boy. A ring that moves side to side means a girl.

Tips & Warnings

  • A fun thing to do while you are pregnant is run an office or family pool that allows people to guess the baby's gender and birth date.
  • Do not start picking out pink or blue clothing just yet. You won't know for sure unless you have an ultrasound or wait until the baby is born.

on 5/13/2008 These are all inaccurate. You can tell your children's gender (born and unborn) by this simple method. All you need is a string and a small metal (like ring, nut or needle poked in a pencil with eraser). All you have to do is to tie the metal with a string and let it rest about an inch above your pulse. Observe the movement of the metal. If it is parallel to your arm, the child is a boy. If it is crosswise, it's a girl. If the movement is diagonal, it's a miscarriage. This will tell you all possible children that you can have.
