Once winter rolls around, you should change the makeup shades that you use. Your darker skin tone will lighten up during the cold months and summer makeup on pale skin is a beauty faux pas. Keep these things in mind when you pick your winter makeup.

From Quick Guide: Seasonal Makeup
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a good moisturizer. Skin typically dries out during the winter, so remember to apply a moisturizer before you begin the rest of your makeup application.

  2. Step 2

Choose a lighter foundation. Once your tan fades, pick a lighter foundation to cover up blemishes. To get the right shade, apply a small amount to your skin to see if it matches. If you want a darker skin tone, use a bronzer.

  3. Step 3

Use less blush on your cheeks. Cold weather typically brings out the redness on the cheeks. Apply only a small amount in a neutral shade.

  4. Step 4

Pick darker colors for the eyes and lips. Use smokier shades during the winter season. Appropriate eye shadow shades include grays, blacks, greens and dark blues.

  5. Step 5

Put on mascara. Dark mascara is best for the winter and can be found in blacks and purples. For even more dramatic lashes, choose a volumizing mascara.

  6. Step 6

Wear a cream-based lip stick. Hair will get stuck to lips that have gloss on them. Instead, opt for a lipstick with a built in moisturizer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to wear an appropriate fragrance for the winter months. Perfumes with a spicy smell are usually popular.
  • You want to use a heavy night cream during the winter months. This will protect your skin against the harsh indoor heating.
