How to Be a Feminist

Most people would say that they favor equality and gender rights. They believe that men and women should have equal opportunities and the ability to do whatever they want with their lives. This is the textbook definition of a feminist. But to a select few, feminism means going beyond the textbook. If you feel an overwhelming desire to burn your bra, keep reading, but put down the lighter first.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stop shaving your legs and armpits. The tradition of shaving body hair is just another tool used by men to keep women down. It is perfectly acceptable for a man to walk around town with a beard, but a woman with hairy legs would be gawked at. So grow your leg hair out in protest.

  2. Step 2

Go barefaced. The cosmetic industry is run by a bunch of men. They call the shots and tell the world what is beautiful and what isn't, so don't succumb to their bullying. Throw out all your makeup.

  3. Step 3

Grow your hair long. Cutting it short would prove that you really do want to be just like a man, so grow your hair as long as humanly possible. It will match your legs and armpits perfectly.

  4. Step 4

Forgo uncomfortable attire. Pantyhose, high heels and girdles were all designed by men. Refuse to wear anything that binds pinches or otherwise alters your natural form.

  5. Step 5

Leave the bra at home. Breasts are meant for feeding children, so don't keep them under wraps or pushed up to your chin. Let them hang freely to your knees, as nature intended.

  6. Step 6

Become a lesbian. The ultimate feminist knows that the only way to truly beat men is to make them obsolete. Choosing a female life partner will really show them who's boss.

on 7/2/2008 The term "feminism" is outdated - the movement is more about gender equality now. There is not one single feminism, and I'd like to remind you that bras were never actually burned - they were symbolically trashed. Very few modern feminists believe that it is about oppressing men or making them obsolete, and those who do are in the radical minority. The majority of self-professed feminists I know today are advocates of economic, domestic, and cultural equality. They want salaries to be based on work, not gender - there is a definite gap between what a woman and a man with identical qualifications and output are paid. They want to be treated as equals in the home - since many women today work to support their families, they feel that their spouse or partner should take on a fair share of what is traditionally considered "women's work". While some feminists feel that porn and strip clubs a

on 6/16/2008 I've never considered myself a feminist. If it need to be done, I did it. How I dressed or didn't dress had nothing to do with it. Whether I wore makeup or shaved had nothing to do with it.

I did realize early on that this world goes around on the hard work of men and women; not one or the other.
