You can fix a jute carpet at home as long as the repairs needed are minor. Binding a jute carpet requires a little bit of sewing experience and some patience. Repair the fraying edge of a jute carpet as soon as possible from the time you notice it. Here's how to bind a jute carpet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Needle and thread
  • Shears
  1. Step 1

Trim the frayed edge of your jute carpet with heavy duty shears. You should make the cut as straight and neat as you can.

  2. Step 2

Cut off a strip of cotton binding that's about two inches longer than the raw edge of your frayed carpet.

  3. Step 3

Fold the binding evenly over the raw edge of your carpet.

  4. Step 4

Fold one end of your cotton binding under your carpet and secure it with a series of cross-stitches.

  5. Step 5

Sew down the length of your binding, making sure your needle and thread penetrate through the carpet and both layers of binding.

  6. Step 6

Fold the opposite end of the binding underneath the carpeting.

  7. Step 7

Secure the binding using cross-stitches. Make sure it goes through all layers of your repair.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you are sewing the carpet, use a standard stitch of sewing. Push the needle all the way through the layers of fabric, pull the needle out the other side of the fabric, then create another hole on the side of fabric you're on and push it back through.
