Construction mastic adhesive is an adhesive commonly used to bond ceiling, wall and floor tiles, plywood panels, concrete, asphalt, leather and fabric. Construction mastic adhesive is a high grade adhesive that can be used by construction professionals and around the house. Here's how to apply a construction mastic adhesive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clean the surfaces that will be bonded thoroughly. Wood should be free of paint, varnish and wax. Cement and other products should be completely free of dirt.

  2. Step 2

Apply the construction mastic adhesive directly from the tube or from a can with a stick or notched trowel. Apply as much as you need to firmly bond the object.

  3. Step 3

Place the object being bound in clamps to keep it secure for about 24 hours. That's how long construction mastic adhesive typically takes for it to cure.

  4. Step 4

Allow the object being bound with your construction mastic adhesive to cure for 24 hours. The object will be set in about 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Clean any leftover construction mastic adhesive from your object using mineral spirits or turpentine. You'll want to read carefully the directions of these products when using them.

  6. Step 6

Remove the clamps after 24 hours and begin using the object as intended.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear gloves and ventilate the area when you're using construction mastic adhesive. If you're unsure of the adhesive's toxicity, wear a fume filtering respiratory mask.
  • Read the label on your construction mastic adhesive before using to make sure you're using it properly.
