Anaerobic resin is used typically for locking the threads of bolts and screws. It comes in two forms. Loctite 271 provides a permanent bond to these bolts and screws. Locksnuts provides a breakable bond to the items. Here's how to apply an anaerobic resin.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare the bolts and screws that you'll be locking with this resin. You should clean out the threads the best you can by soaking them and using a metal brush to clean them thoroughly.

  2. Step 2

Squeeze the anaerobic resin from the tube or use the bottle applicator that comes with the resin.

  3. Step 3

Allow the anaerobic resin to set and cure. Anaerobic resin is known for hardening in the absence of air between tight-fitting metal parts.

  4. Step 4

Allow the metal to set for 15 minutes. Allow the steel-to-steel bond to cure at least overnight, perhaps longer.

  5. Step 5

Clean up any mess you've made with any excess anaerobic resin by using soap and water before the glue hardens completely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always read the label on your anaerobic resin carefully before you use the product. Follow these directions closely.
  • Always use an anaerobic resin in a well ventilated area, as the fumes from this product can be harmful to your health if used in a confined area.
  • Always make sure you understand the specific uses of an adhesive before you begin working. While different adhesives can be used on different types of materials, each adhesive has a specific intended use to maximize the bonding of the desired products.
