Buying an Easter dress and going to church is as much a part of Easter tradition as the Easter Bunny bringing a basket of goodies. The two are so intertwined, that churches even have Easter egg hunts for their members and the surrounding communities. Because religious institutions seem to accept the secular tradition so readily, it is really a matter of creating a religious atmosphere while taking part in the secular tradition.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eggs
  • Bible
  • Candy
  • Religious trinkets
  1. Step 1

Attend your church's Easter cantata, then go home and dye Easter eggs. Use this time to talk about the resurrection of Christ while participating in a fun Easter tradition.

  2. Step 2

Leave a Bible or a book about the resurrection of Christ inside your child's Easter basket. If the Easter Bunny believes in the real meaning of Easter, then it must be cool.

  3. Step 3

Attend church on Easter morning after opening Easter gifts and baskets.

  4. Step 4

Say a prayer as a group before letting the children run wild for an Easter egg hunt. Thank God for the resurrection and the ability to have fun as a group. This will reinforce the real meaning of the holiday while having fun with the tradition.

  5. Step 5

Fill some plastic eggs with candy and others with religious trinkets for your Easter egg hunt. Children enjoy getting candy and toys and erasers or bracelets with Bible verses or pictures of the cross reinforce the religious aspect of the holiday.

  6. Step 6

Talk about the fun you had and the gifts you received at the end of the day. Use this time to relate the fun of receiving gifts to the gift Christ gave to us.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have the Easter bunny leave clues in your child's Easter basket that take them to a gift relating to the religious aspect of the holiday. Hide a Bible or a bookmark with a cross on it and watch your children have fun racing around in search of their gifts.
