Choose a Swing Set

There are many options when it comes to choosing a swing set. Wooden or metal are just two of the options from which you have to choose for a complete play system for your backyard. There are many different designs to fit every space, so to narrow down your choices, you need to determine your swing set requirements.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Determine your swing set budget. Once a budget is established, you can limit your search to swing sets within a reasonable range.

  2. Step 2

Find a safe place in your yard for a swing set.

  3. Step 3

Measure your yard and determine the amount of space you have to accommodate a swing set.

  4. Step 4

Decide what accessories you want on your swing set. Slides and swings are usually the standards, but modern swing sets offer rock climbing walls, monkey bars, tire swings, rope ladders, sand boxes, towers and more.

  5. Step 5

Choose the material for your swing set. Wooden sets are available and can be customized in many cases. Metal swing sets are also an option, but don't usually offer add ons.

  6. Step 6

View the swing set first hand, if possible. This allows you to see the quality of the craftsmanship, the actual size of the swing set and allows you to see the safety features in place.

  7. Step 7

Verify that installation is included in the quoted price.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you choose a wooden swing set, choose a hard wood or a pressure treated wood that will better withstand the elements.
  • Swing sets must be on level ground or should be installed to compensate for sloping ground.
  • Swing sets must be approximately six feet from any structures, including fences and electrical wires.
  • Do not install a swing set on concrete, asphalt or other hard surfaces.
