People seek out government grant money for many reasons. They may want to start their own business or need some help paying for school. You can find grant money from both the state and federal branches of the government.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check with your school. Guidance offices at high schools and colleges will have a list of government grants that you may be eligible for.

  2. Step 2

Look online. Grants.gov has over a thousand grants listed on their site. They allow you to read through the descriptions of the different government grants and apply securely over the Internet.

  3. Step 3

Find a book that lists all government grants. The Catalog of Federal Education Grants and Oryx's Directory of Research Grants are two examples of government grant manuals. You can buy one of these books or check for availability at your local library.

  4. Step 4

Speak to a career counselor. Career counselors will often let you know if you qualify for any grant money if you choose to pursue a job in a certain profession.

  5. Step 5

Call a government grant money hotline. Grant Info Systems offers a toll free number to call, (800) 592-0362, that directs you to representatives who can help determine your eligibility for government grant money.

Tips & Warnings
  • Follow all directions in the grant listings in order to apply for funding from the organization or branch of government.
  • Fheck with local organizations to find grant money. Traditionally, local chapters of organizations like The Elks Club, Rotary, Kiwanis and other civic or fraternal clubs will give away money.
