Buy a book on JAVA. Try "Java: An Introduction to Computer Science and Programming, Third Edition" written by Walter Savitch.

Take the online tutorial at cfbstaff.cfbisd.edu. The tutorial is free and covers all of the basic such as creating windows and adding buttons. Of course, you will need a computer to do this or you can go to your local library that has free Internet access.

Download the tutorial at java.sun.com. It is a very useful tutorial but if you do not have any programming experience at all it can be difficult. You will need a computer for this and enough available memory to download the programs.

Go to sun.com/training and register for one of their courses. They are very extensive and web-based. These classes are expensive but for what you learn from them they may be well worth it. This is recommended for someone who is really interested in getting into web programming.
