How to Appear Wealthy

As the saying goes, "Money talks." You don't have to be an heiress or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company to look like a million bucks. Learn to keep up with the high rollers by appearing wealthier than you are by following a few simple suggestions.

1. Learn to talk the talk. The wealthy often discuss money or topics that require loads of it. Do your homework by reading issues of magazines such as Forbes or Smart Money. It won't hurt to brush up on topics like yachts, fine food, boating and polo.
2. Dress like a million bucks. Purchase a few high-end suits, tailored clothing items and other dressy pieces at outlets or clearance sales rather than creating a wardrobe full of Gucci and Armani.
3. Be polished. Don't forget the small details. You should smell good and look good. Routine hair cuts, dental upkeep, manicures, pedicures and a sophisticated perfume or cologne show the importance of taking care of yourself.
4. Carry a money clip instead of a wallet if you're male. If female, carry a minimalist pocketbook versus a bulky handbag.
5. Use manners. Always treat others with respect, never forgetting a please or thank you. Manners are tied to traditional standards of the upper class.
6. Reduce talk of personal finances. Those who have it don't necessarily flaunt it. The only time to discuss dollars is when referring to the stock market. Never discuss money--including ignoring price tags and never complaining about the cost of a quality item.
7. Volunteer. A common activity for those who don't have to spend the majority of their time at a job, volunteering with also let you rub elbows with the wealthy.
