Sunshine and surf await visitors to South Carolina. Historic cobblestone streets line Charleston and waterfalls and hiking trails abound in the state's parks. Many individuals traveling to South Carolina with their pets, are successfully finding pet-friendly hotels and activities. Read on to learn how to find pet-friendly hotels in South Carolina.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Brainstorm about the places and activities that you would like to experience in South Carolina. Maybe you want to hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains or soak up the sun on Hilton Head Island. Deciding in advance where you will be going lets you target your hotel search and look for pet-friendly activities in particular areas to ensure that you won't be left sleeping on the beach.

  2. Step 2

Visit the official South Carolina tourism website for a list of pet-friendly hotels in South Carolina. The search feature allows you to look for different types of accommodations including hotels, historic inns and campgrounds to find one that meets your needs.

  3. Step 3

Read through the city guides on the Dog-Friendly website. Find the South Carolina cities that you are thinking of visiting and look at the guide for information on everything from pet-friendly hotels to pet-friendly attractions and businesses. You will find guides for Charleston, Columbia, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and many other cities.

  4. Step 4

Ask other pet owners that you know about their travels to South Carolina. You will not only get first hand information this way, but you may run across sites or hotels that you hadn't considered. Additionally, if you know anyone living in South Carolina with pets, contact them for information on pet-friendly activities.

  5. Step 5

Shorten your list of potential hotels to the ones you are most interested in. Call each of the hotels and ask about their pet policy. Hotels may not be accepting pets anymore or may have specific rules about pets on the property so it is always a good idea to make sure that you have the correct information.

  6. Step 6

Decide on the hotels that you wish to stay in and book your rooms. Always call ahead to alert the hotel that you will be bringing a pet, as many require advance notice.
