Step 1
Model discipline to your child daily. Don't put off chores that need to be done. If your kids see you taking care of things, exercising regularly, balancing the checkbook and any and other tasks that require discipline, they are more likely to incorporate it into their lives.
-
Step 2
Set clear and realistic goals for your child. Give him chores that he is responsible for and make sure he completes them. Set up a schedule for doing homework, going to bed and eating meals and stick to it.
-
Step 3
Let your child have a part in developing goals. This gives her a sense of ownership and an increased motivation to meet those goals.
-
Step 4
Use a visual method to chart the goals that your child meets. A chore chart or other form of tracking motivates your child to improve. It takes discipline on your part to keep it up. It is another chance to model discipline by your actions.
-
Step 5
Praise your child often when you see him exercising discipline in his life. If you see him doing his homework or cleaning his room without being asked, let him know how proud you are of him.
-
Step 6
Sign your child up for music lessons or let them join a sports team. Both these activities require discipline, and give the child a chance to see positive results from their dedication and practice.
