Fabric softener sheets are inexpensive and convenient. You toss one into the dryer and laundry comes out static-free, soft and smelling fresh. You might grab the spent dryer sheet and use it to clean out the lint trap after each load. There are lots of other ways to recycle used fabric softener sheets so that you get more mileage from each one. Here are suggestions to extend their usefulness.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Wipe the television screen, computer monitor, mini-blinds and car dashboards with a spent fabric softener sheet. Reduced status means less dust.
Step2
Put a retired fabric softener sheet in your coat pocket. The static-reducing properties prevent shocks when you slide in and out of the car in the winter. Pin a couple of used dryer sheets to your clothing or tie them through your belt loop to repel mosquitoes in the summertime.
Step3
Soak a used sheet in a casserole dish to lift burned-on food. Fill with hot water and soak overnight. Wash with soap and water and the burned bits will slide right off.
Step4
Tuck used fabric softener sheets into your shoes to freshen the insoles. Use the sheets for a quick buff when you remove them.
Step5
Keep a few unused fabric softener sheets in your purse. The next time static cling is a problem, dampen one of the sheets and rub it inside the garment or over pantyhose to reduce the static.
Step6
Place used fabric softener sheets in drawers, luggage, hampers, trash cans and under the car seats. Tuck a few behind draperies, between sofa cushions and in the linen closet for a fresh scent.
Step7
Wrap Christmas ornaments with spent sheets for storage. A quick wipe cuts dust and static when you unpack them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Collect the used fabric softener sheet in an empty tissue box near the dryer.
