If you love the theater, you know there is nothing like a Broadway show: big name stars, wonderful production numbers and astronomical ticket prices. Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get the word out. Let colleagues know that you love the theater (or the ballet or the philharmonic). Nobody wants to see expensive tickets go unused, so you might end up the beneficiary.

  2. Step 2

Show up at the theater an hour early and see if anyone is trying to sell their tickets, due to an emergency that prevents them from attending.

  3. Step 3

Take advantage of bad weather. Many theatergoers stay home in inclement weather. Buy a standing-room-only ticket and scope out empty seats just before curtain time. Settle into one of the vacancies.

  4. Step 4

Go to the theater the day of the show and ask for "limited view seating." These seats are usually $15 to $20 and are located very close to the stage. Missing a few minor details is worth being so close to the action.

  5. Step 5

Check into youth subscriptions. Theaters boost attendance by offering special rates to a younger audience. See if you qualify.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you purchase tickets from someone you don't know, make sure the tickets are for that particular show, with a current date and time. Be aware scalping tickets is illegal. Make sure if you purchase last-minute tickets, they are from a lawful source.
