When you want to share a file with someone, send it in an email message as an attachment. Lotus Notes makes it easy to attach a file to a message. When you're working at home, you can even send an attachment to yourself so the file is waiting in your inbox when you get to work the next day.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the message that needs the attachment. Place your cursor in the location within the message where you want the attachment to be located. Once attached, a small icon will appear in that location to represent the file.

  2. Step 2

Select the "File" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Attach." An option allows the file to be compressed to make it smaller, if needed. The average user will send the file in its regular format.

  3. Step 3

Browse for the file that you want to attach to your Lotus Notes message. You must select both the drive and directory to find your file and multiple documents can be selected by holding down the "CTRL" key. Once you've picked your document, press "Create."

  4. Step 4

Proof your message and select "Send." Your message with its attached document is on its way to the recipient. Viewing your sent file folder, you will see a small paperclip next to messages that contain an attachment.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the "Paperclip" icon on the toolbar to more quickly reach the "Create Attachment" screen.
  • Never open suspicious attachments because of the threat of a virus.
