How to Play Wink

Wink is a fun party game that can be played in conjunction with dinner, conversation and even bridal or baby showers. You only need a deck of cards or even scraps of paper. Conversation carries on as the murderer kills players one by one by catching their eye and winking at them. It's a lively game that requires very little setup but allows for plenty of fun.

Instructions

    • 1

Sort out enough playing cards so that each player will have one card. Make sure the Ace of Spades is included in the pile, which indicates who the murderer is. It doesn't matter what the other cards are.

    • 2

Shuffle all the cards and either place in a pile to draw from or deal out one card to each person.

    • 3

Look at the card you have been assigned and note whether you are the murderer or not. If you draw the Ace of Spades, you are murderer. If you have drawn any other card, you are not the murderer but you are a potential victim. Keep your identity secret either way.

    • 4

Place your card face down on the table.

    • 5

Converse freely with the members around the table. The conversation can be about anything you like. The point is to provide distraction while the murderer starts "killing" the other players.

    • 6

Kill the other players by catching their eye and discretely winking at them, if you are murderer. If you have been killed, you must acknowledge the kill. You may ignore it for a moment, in order to not draw attention to the murder but within a few seconds you must either lay your head down, effectively "dying" or by flipping your card over, displaying that you are not the murderer but are no longer in the game.

    • 7

Continue the game, conversing while the murderer tries to kill players by winking at them and the players attempt to discover who is the murderer.

    • 8

Unmask the murderer by catching him in the act and calling out "Murderer!" If you are correct, the murderer must concede and flip over his card. If you are wrong, you must flip your card over and sacrificially "die" since you falsely accused someone.

    • 9

Play until someone identifies the murderer or the murderer kills everyone.

Tips & Warnings

  • This is a great game to play with a partial deck. If you do not have the Ace of Spades, choose another card to be the murderer card.

  • If you do not have a deck of cards, you can also play with scraps of paper. Leave all of the scraps blank except for one which you can mark with an X.

  • There are numerous strategies to the game from refusing to meet anyone's eye to killing everyone machine gun style. The best option is to observe opponents from the side as much as possible and keep any eye contact quick and brief.

  • This game might be disturbing for small or young children. Gauge your audience before you commit to playing Wink.
