How to Clean a Bathroom When Vacating

Cleaning the bathroom is an unpleasant task under most circumstances. When vacating an apartment, the bathroom has to be especially clean to avoid having charges applied against your deposit. Use these steps to get the bathroom squeaky clean to insure a you are not charged for a dirty bathroom.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Disinfectant cleaner
  • Cleaning rags
  • Gloves
  • Broom
  • Mop
  • Bucket
  • Mold and mildew remover
  • Toilet brush
  • Rust remover
  • Glass cleaner
  • Vinegar
  1. Step 1

    Spray mildew remover in the shower or bathtub and let it sit while you clean other parts of the bathroom. After about ten minutes, come back and scrub off the mildew. Rinse it clean with the showerhead.

  2. Step 2

    Use vinegar to clean off hard water deposits and to clean the shower door. Apply a rust remover to stained porcelain to remove rust.

  3. Step 3

    Pour a disinfectant cleaner in the toilet and let it sit. Use the same cleaner and wipe down the top of the toilet, the seat, the rim, the outside and the base. Then scrub the toilet and flush down the cleaner.

  4. Step 4

    Take a two-sided sponge and wet it with water. Use the scrubbing side to scrub through residue on the countertop. After everything loosens, spray the countertop with disinfectant cleaner and wipe down with the sponge.

  5. Step 5

    Take a damp sponge and wipe down the fronts of cabinets, walls, doors and doorknobs. Use window cleaner to wipe down the mirror and windows.

  6. Step 6

    Wipe the windowsills with a wet sponge. Use the broom to knock down cobwebs or excess dirt from the air vent.

  7. Step 7

    Sweep the floor. Be sure to wipe down the baseboards and then mop the floor with a disinfectant cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands during cleaning.
  • Never mix ammonia and bleach when cleaning. The combination releases a fatal gas.
