The peach fronted conure is able to repeat noise and has some talking ability. This bird has a peach front and a black beak which differentiates it from its close relative the half-moon conure. Conures require a large commitment but can make extraordinary pets by following the steps below.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Enclosure
  • Substrate
  • Perches
  • Bird toys
  • Seed
  • Pellets
  • Spray millet
  • Food and water bowls
  • Dilute bleach cleaner
  1. Step 1

Purchase an enclosure that is at least 20 inches tall by 20 inches wide and 30 inches deep. The conure needs to be able to stretch it's a wings a little. A cage with a "playground" on top of it is a plus.

  2. Step 2

Place a substrate that is easily cleaned like corn cob in the bottom of your bird cage.

  3. Step 3

Keep the cage in an area that has a relatively stable temperature. Avoid drafts and direct sunlight when you place the cage.

  4. Step 4

Add several perches and chew toys to the cage. Play gyms and other toys are good to entertain your bird when you are away.

  5. Step 5

Feed your conure a mixture of fortified seed, commercial pellets and fresh fruits and veggies. You can also feed spray millet as a treat to your conure.

  6. Step 6

Provide access to fresh clean non-chlorinated water at all times.

  7. Step 7

Change the substrate daily as well as the water and food. Clean the entire cage along with all bowls perches and toys once a month with a dilute bleach mix.

  8. Step 8

Spend time on a regular basis with your bird. They will crave your attention and you should fulfill their desire to be around you as much as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use both cement perches and natural perches to promote the health of your bird's feet.
  • Take your bird to a veterinarian annually to ensure proper health. Also make special trips any time your bird shows signs of illness.
  • Be sure to completely rinse away all bleach when cleaning before placing the bird back in its cage or it could be killed by the fumes.
  • Do not feed your peach fronted conure avocados, chocolate, alcohol or caffeine because these substances are toxic to your bird.
