It's hip, it's modern and it dates from the 1930s. Salsa is a fun type of dance for people of all ages. With a wide range of styles and forms to choose from, selecting the right class is the first step towards becoming a salsa dancing master.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the style of salsa dance that you want to learn. Watch movies, go to dance shows or visit classes to see the difference between Cuban, Miami, New York, LA and other salsa dance styles.

  2. Step 2

Consider the best time and location for salsa dancing. You may want to take dancing lessons during the day or in the evening, depending on your schedule. Think about how you will get to the dance studio.

  3. Step 3

Research the dancing classes available in convenient locations. Use the Internet or the yellow pages to find salsa dance studios in your area.

  4. Step 4

Set a budget for your salsa dancing. Think about the cost of lessons, dancing shoes and appropriate clothing.

  5. Step 5

Visit a salsa dance studio to observe a class. See if you like the style of dancing and the style of the teacher.

  6. Step 6

Take part in a trial salsa lesson. Dance with as many partners as you can. These are the people you will share the class with, so get to know them.

  7. Step 7

Make a list of the salsa studios you have tried, the cost of lessons, the style of dancing and the class times. Select the salsa dance class that best meets your needs and sign up.
