Stenciling a wall is an easy and fun project that allows you to create your own unique patterns to decorate a room. You can buy precut stencils at craft stores, or you can create and cut out your own stencil for an even more personal look.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide on the design you want to stencil on your wall. Purchase or create the stencil and purchase the paint from a craft or home improvement store.

  2. Step 2

Use a pencil to lightly mark the location on the wall where you want the stencils to be. Planning will help ensure that the stencil pattern moves along the wall in a straight or organized manner.

  3. Step 3

Cut out areas of the stencil out that you plan to use.

  4. Step 4

Secure the stencil to the wall with masking tape. Masking tape should not leave any marks on your wall when you remove the stencil.

  5. Step 5

Use a sponge to paint large areas of the stencil and a stencil brush for smaller areas. Cover the sponge or brush with a thick layer of paint. Wipe off excess paint on a paper towel to keep the paint from building up underneath the stencil.

  6. Step 6

Paint the objects in the stencil, starting at the outside of the design and moving toward the center with a circular motion or by tapping paint onto the surface.

  7. Step 7

Remove the stencil from the wall once painted. Touch up paint smudges from the edge of the stencil, and use the stencil brush for areas that need to be filled in.

  8. Step 8

Allow the stenciled wall to dry thoroughly.
