Whether you're taking the new bundle of joy a gift upon arrival at the hospital or selecting a shower gift, selecting a gift for a tiny newborn is a fun way to welcome baby into the world while choosing something mom and dad will enjoy as well. From practical to creative, traditional to sentimental, there are many ideas to choose from when it comes to showering the new one with love.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Blanket him with love. Soft bundles coming in all shapes, colors, sizes and textures not only keep the little one warm--they can become lifelong keepsake symbolizing childhood. Make it extra special by getting the blanket monogrammed for the baby.

  2. Step 2

Choose an outfit. If baby isn't born yet, choose a neutral color, or wait until he or she arrives to purchase something gender-specific. Many new parents receive newborn-sized clothing in bulk; think ahead and purchase something a bit larger, so that the only new clothes for the baby won't run out within a few months. When purchasing larger than newborn clothing, try to pick outfits that are medium in fabric weight. Babies grow at different sizes, so a 6-month snowsuit might not be fitting for every baby.

  3. Step 3

Accessorize the baby. Jewelry keepsakes make memorable gifts. A tiny bracelet or necklace will remind all how little the infant was at this time.

  4. Step 4

Start savings early. Piggy banks are fun gifts that a child can carry for a lifetime. From classy sterling silver to fun and funky painted ceramics, you'll find something perfect to suit the nursery's personality.

  5. Step 5

Purchase a savings bond. Most baby gifts are immediately used, but a savings bond will accumulate interest, helping the baby when she's older.

  6. Step 6

Buy the baby books. Children's books are timeless; they are wonderful stories that children will remember for years to come. Reinforce the importance of reading and learning by carefully choosing books for the new baby.

  7. Step 7

Get creative with a themed gift basket. Make it all pink or blue, a holiday theme, or fill it with animals, goodies or bath supplies.
